Proverbs 18:24 (AMPC)
24 The man of many friends [a friend of all the world] will prove himself a bad friend, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
John 15:12-13 KJV
12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
I have always told my kids, “You don’t need a lot of friends, just a couple of good ones.” In the lonely times, God will be there for you, and we can be encouraged and know He may be teaching us how to rely upon Him first and foremost when friends seem to be few and far between.
He is the ultimate friend who laid down His life for us. If we will let Him be the friend only He can be in our lives, and learn to be satisfied with His companionship, then all our other friendships come into order. We will be better friends to others when we get our primary affirmations from God. God alone is fully capable of constant pure love, consideration, and abilities to know what we need at any given moment.
Desperate people do desperate things, and often have very specific expectations and or agenda’s. When these type of people don’t get their way, they often bite! But believers who keep God in their view, and commune with Him daily through prayer and the Word, seem to have the sweetest dispositions and graceful filters when dealing with others. (Psalm 119:165 (KJV) Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.)
We long for friends, who understand and accept us flaws and all. It is never easy being and having friends, but it is always worth it. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and let God make you and bless you with the joy of friendship.
love in Him,
