Psalm 46:1-7 (NIV)
1 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.[c]
4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
5 God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
7 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
8 Come and see what the Lord has done,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
I have always been drawn to flowing streams and rivers! I could just sit by them and enjoy the beauty of God's creation all day. But earthly rivers dry up, get diseased, and are filled with living creatures that like to bite. Still, the river draws me to take in it's beauty.
God's river never runs dry. The streams are pure, not diseased. The contents never bite, but make us glad. Streams of joy, healing and life flow in this river. God is in the midst of her, and flows through believers whose hearts are humbly yielded to Him.
I don't get to see natural rivers often, and when I do it is a special treat. But God's river is never far away, or hidden in a forest. His river is constantly available to any who are thirsty. Come, and let us drink freely for a very high price has been paid for access to this supply that runs straight from the throne of God. Take me to the river.
Love in Him,
