There's a Storm Coming!

24-25 “These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on. If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock. Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit—but nothing moved that house. It was fixed to the rock.  26-27 “But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don’t work them into your life, you are like a stupid carpenter who built his house on the sandy beach. When a storm rolled in and the waves came up, it collapsed like a house of cards."          Matthew 7:24-27The Message

I grew up in Louisiana where we were accustomed to sudden storms, severe storms with lots of thunder, lightening, and strong winds.  We also had our fair share of tornados.  Sometimes these storms would literally appear out of nowhere, and other times we knew they were headed our way.

Growing up in this type of climate, I could walk outside and feel the storm coming.  The color of the sky would change, there may be a sudden stillness in the air, and the atmosphere would just seem different.  You would be compelled to look up, and take note that a storm is brewing.  Everyone would make their preparations to avoid being caught in it unprepared, and adjust their plans for that day if necessary.

God has warned us here in Matthew 7, that storms will come to us all.  We will feel beat up by these various storm systems, yet our lives can endure and remain strong and steadfast.  We can get through it and move on with our lives as a testimony to the solid foundation we have built our lives on.  The Word of God is our Rock that holds us up even in the toughest storms!

Don’t be surprised when the storm hits suddenly, and learn to read the signs given to us when one is on the way.  Our spirit, in union with God, will often warn us that we are headed into a storm.  Things will just seem to slow down, and we will feel drawn into deeper communion with our Father.  He may warn us of what we should do to be prepared, and what we should not do during the storm.  I assure you He has a plan, and wants to reveal it to you.  His plan will keep you strong and free from fear in the midst of every storm, sudden or on it's way.  Look up, study the clouds, and make your preparations before it hits.
