Like many mothers I loved watching my daughters learn new things, like music, arts and crafts, or cooking and sewing.
Many have heard the phrase, "An idle mind is the devil's workshop." For 2016 I believe it's still quite true! I would now add, "A mind addicted to social media is a devil's playground." I have actually seen men and women in church during a sermon or even an alter call, scrolling through their Facebooks as if they can't stop! The addiction is very rampant and real. I am so grieved when I see young girls in elementary school already absorbed, fixated and spending way too much time on social media.
We all have heard of the dangers of our boys becoming addicted to violent video games. God help the women who marry these young men, if they don't get their breakthrough. And God help the young men who marry these young ladies who cant function without exploiting themselves on Instagram, Facebook, etc. These young girls may grow up and become women who are so self absorbed with a superficial identity that is basically full of narcism and fantasy. They often do not have the tools to properly value and nurture their own homes and children because of their warped sense of identity. Their thoughts, and possibly hearts are full of toxic emotions that foster comparing themselves with each other, which can lead to jealousy, self loathing, and even suicide.
I think the women "back in the day" knew something about minding their own business and having something beautiful to work on, like sewing, quilting, embroidery and knitting for their loved ones and families. It is all coming full circle and you can find all kinds of beautiful crafts every where to learn, and share with your daughters.
I am learning embroidery right now at 51, and look forward to making keepsakes for my family. It is actually my daughter and her friend who inspired me! It is relaxing, and decompressing to make something of worth with my hands, allowing my mind to rest. Anxiety disorders are off the charts and there is something healing about a godly woman teaching you something beautiful.
Below are a couple of scriptures that help remind us of truths we need to embrace in this day of chaos, unrest and disorder.
Titus 2:3 NLT 3 Similarly, teach the older women to live in a way that honors God. They must not slander others or be heavy drinkers.[a] Instead, they should teach others what is good. 4 These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, 5 to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes,[b] to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God.
1 Timothy 5:13 AMPC 13 Moreover, as they go about from house to house, they learn to be idlers, and not only idlers, but gossips and busybodies, saying what they should not say and talking of things they should not mention.
I want to challenge women of God to do something beautiful with each other including your spiritual and natural daughters; pass on something that will only bless them and never become a stumbling block to their faith.
