Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. ~ Hebrews 10:19-22 (NLT)
Traveling through airport security, recently, I was chosen for the opportunity to pass through the Body Scanner. "Stand with your feet apart and raise your hands over your head!" were the brief directives. The machine whirred, spun and searched for any suspicious articles I might be hiding. I stood hoping that I hadn't forgotten to take my keys out of my pocket! I was considered "clean" and told to pass through.
I realized that this looks a lot like the process of making it past the security of The Holy Spirit as we desire to enter into the presence of our God. He searches. He investigates. He knows if we're hiding fear, doubt, offense or any secret sins that we've yet to yield completely to Him.
The only hope we have of entering into the Holy Place and seeing God's face is to enter in through the body and the blood of His Son, Jesus Christ. Stand before Him with your hands raised in worship and giving of thanks. Like the Psalmist, ask Him: "Search me, Lord, and know me. See if there are any offensive ways in me." (Ps. 139:24) Draw near in sincerity and faith. Allow Him to wash you, as only He can, with His pure water. He'll reckon you clean and welcome you in His Most Holy Place.
