Cover Your Eyes!

Search me, O God, and know my heart, test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends You and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” ~ Psalm 139:23-24 (NLT)

"Cover your eyes!"  I had talked my way into a movie with my sister and brother that was too scary for me.  My sister, preserving her own sleep for the quickly approaching night, warned me because my bedroom was next to hers.  She knew that if I were to see what was on the screen it was going to be a very long night!

Reasons we close our eyes:

  • Fear:  We don't want to see what's scary, alarming or images that reveal pain.
  • Shame:  We don't want to be reminded of failures or things that embarrass us.
  • Ignore:  We don't want to be made aware of situations or needs that demand our response.

These are all normal reactions at different times.  However, covering your eyes or looking away, immediately erodes your opportunity to change your life, your family or a problem.

Change requires the uncomfortable engagement of your heart and soul.  Allow God to search your life.  Cooperate with Him.  Don't cover your eyes at what He reveals.  Don't look away.

See it.  Say it.  Surrender it.

God is greater than your fears and your shame.  Facts don't change just because they're ignored.  God desires to and can change your life.  Before He can, He needs to uncover your eyes.
