WARNING: May Inspire Passion

Jesus said to his followers, "Go everywhere in the world, and tell the Good News to everyone." ~ Mark 16:15 (NCV)

There are many strong statements by preachers, evangelists and well-meaning people of God, intending to stir the passion for evangelism in the hearts of God's people.  Here are a couple:

The supreme task of the church is the evangelization of the world. No one has the right to hear the gospel twice until everyone has had an opportunity to hear it at least once.
— Oswald J. Smith
You have never truly found Jesus if you do not tell others about Him.
— Charles H. Spurgeon

I've heard these quotes all of my life.  I've been affected by them.  Sometimes in a good and inspiring way and sometimes in an "inordinate burden" way.  I have tremendous respect for both of these men.  However, I see significant flaws and potential misunderstandings in both of these statements.

My hope is that, as you read them, you won't feel condemned by their starkness but inspired by their passion.  Let the heart of God and the mind of Christ bring balance to the message these statements carry.  We are, indeed, commissioned by Jesus our Christ to "Share the Good News with everyone."  Because of a plethora of reasons, many Christians will not embrace this vital part of being an Ambassador for Jesus in their generation.  Don't let that be you!

San Diego Christian Worship Center, the church I'm privileged to Pastor, is beginning a new training for learning and living the Gospel of Jesus Christ.   FLUENTgospel is on Wednesday Nights at 7:00 (PST) October - December.  Join us in person or on-line.  Let's purpose, prepare and posture our lives to lead people to the Hope of Salvation, Jesus Christ!  "The Harvest is indeed plentiful, but the laborers are few."
